Joan Burgoyne 1920-21

Thank you to Joey Johnson-Camick for sharing these photos of the William Arthur Dux Medal for General Excellence presented to her grandmother Joan Burgoyne at the Bank School in session 1920-21.

Joan Cochrane Haddow Burgoyne was born at Lanemark Cottages on the 6th July 1908, the youngest of seven children of Thomas Burgoyne and Joan Cochrane Haddow.

At the time Joan was awarded the Arthur Medal she was 12 years old living at Craigbank Terrace along with her father Thomas (47), now an Under-Manager working for New Cumnock Collieries, mother Joan (44), brothers James (23) and Thomas (17) both coal miners and sister Christine (21).

The Burgoyne family later moved to Smithfield Cottage at Connel Park.
