1912: Medallions & Coins

The time capsule discovered during the demolition of the Arthur Memorial United Free Church in 2015 contained artefacts from 1912 when that church’s foundation stone had been laid. It also contained artefacts from the time capsule of 1843 that had been placed there during the building of the original Free Church.

WILLIAM ARTHUR MEDAL

William Arthur established the Arthur Trust to manage the money he left in his will. As well as building a new church he wanted to support other issues facing the community. In particular he cared about the well-being of elderly residents and the education of the children – the Trust coining Dux Meadls to recognise ‘general excellence’.
